How do you find out about new RPGs?
I’m lucky to be connected with some very active members of the roleplaying community. Folks who don’t just play and run games but write them, publish them, back other creators through platforms like Kickstarter, and bring gaming communities together through conventions and gaming days.
It’s mostly through these fine folks – which probably includes you if you’re reading this – that I find out about new games.
That includes (in no special order)
- G+ communities chat (such as RPG Chat, Games on Trial, Story Games, Roleplaying Games and Powered by the Apocalypse)
- the rpg.net and UK Roleplayers forums (hat tip to Neil Smith for drawing my attention to Steve Ellis’s Kickstarters of Note Thread)
- mailshots from Kickstarter and previous Drivethru purchases
- Furnace, 7 Hills and other conventions (mostly at Sheffield’s Garrison Hotel), as well as Go Play Leeds
On the other hand, my FLGS (Patriot Games) isn’t really on this list – certainly not as much as it used to be many years ago. Occasionally I’ll pop by, but then I will usually know about new or recent releases that I’m browsing for rather than expect to go there and discover something fresh.
