Which RPG does the most with the least words?
I have to begin by saying that I have barely read any of the 200-word RPGs that have been produced in the last few years. I’ve no doubt there are some impressively evocative and playable gems in that collection, but I’ve just not gone there yet.
Within my relatively limited experience, I’d have to say that Cthulhu Dark packs in a lot of subtlety, flexibility and system goodness in just two pages.
The recent kickstarter expands on the rules, with lots of excellent advice for creating and playing mysteries. But the original double-page spread is still all you might need to understand the levers to present to players in a character-driven scenario of cosmic Lovecraftian horror.
